Roadtrip with a dog in Norway    Day 2

15/08/2024

We wake up on the mountain, it's sunny. At; 5 in the morning. But damn .. how cold it is! We eat food and go for a short walk, before we get in the car and drive on. A little unsure of where to go. The goal is actually the Geirangerfjord, but here we got lost and we got to a place where it is was  not possible to drive further, so we gave up and turned around.

We took a longer stop in Sjåk, went to the grocery store, drank water and buy something good to eat. Before we went on a slightly longer trip

Now we know where we can go ... to Åndalsnes. I have wanted to see where kompani Lauritsen has been recorded. What it's like there, and now we're actually going there! But before that we drive up and up over another mountain with lots of sheep walking freely. It goes at 30 km an hour, sometimes slower, but we make our way forward. Gizmo loves watching the sheep, this is really exciting. They are so cool too.

Now we have arrived in Åndalsnes, many of the car parks are full. Especially the one right next to the hiking trail Rampstreken, so we park a little further away. Thought I might go for the walk Rampestreken, but knew I wouldn't be able to do it as I'm not in the best shape right now. But go for a walk with Gizmo anyway, and that's when we discover ... the Romsdals gondola.

We can take a gondola up the mountain and see the view at the top.

The Romsdals gondola is a state-of-the-art gondola that takes you to the top of the mountain Nesaksla, 708 meters above sea level. Here you can experience a fantastic 360-degree view of majestic peaks and deep fjords. It gives you a panoramic view of famous sights such as Trollveggen, Trollstigen and Romsdalen. https://www.romsdalen.no/romsdalsgondolen

But... Is it allowed with a dog? I google it quickly and it looks like it's legal, but I'm still unsure. We line up to buy a ticket and I ask if it is legal and it is. The dog gets in for free, but for me as 1 adult, this cost NOK 550 for a turn/return ticket, so a bit expensive but we bought it anyway.

Gizmo would like to greet absolutely everyone, so he has been given a short leash when we stand as close as we do to others. Someone greets him and is so happy about it. Then the Gondola begins to drive, up and up and up. Gizmo looks and thinks it's very exciting. He stands right by the window and follows along. But me, I'm holding on in the gondola, and to Gizmo for dear life! This is almost like a Ferris wheel, higher and higher, without any form of protection other than a glass box with a floor. Not cool. At the top there is one attachment in which the gondola suddenly moves back and forth a little more forcefully and I reacted with a sound, along with some others there. Hehe. We finally got up.

At the top I go to the toilet, Gizmo joins me. Then we sit down on a bench and have a drink. It was very hot, so you get quite thirsty. After this we checked out the view on the mountain, I took many, many pictures while Gizmo waited patiently. He was very good. Then we went for a walk and saw the panoramic view, it was amazing. Sat at the top of the mountain and relaxed, had more drinks and looked at the view

In the end I thought it was so hot, Gizmo too when he was breathing and panting. Now it was time to get back down. We didn't stay very long on the mountain, but we got to see the view, relax and experience something. So it was fun. Fortunately, the way down was a little less terrifying than the way up. Gizmo was very hot in the Gondola, so he lay straight out and was completely done.

When we were finally down, the temperature was luckily a bit better, we also went for a walk in the shade, tried to get Gizmo more water but now he didn't want any. We went back to the car and eat some snacks.

Before we went on to try and find a place to stay...
