Roadtrip with my dog in Norway. Day 1

08/08/2024

After we have packed the car full of equipment, we choose to drive over Valdres.

We take our first proper break at Beitostølen, before we continue. Until we finally find a rest area without other campervans and tent and cars at the mountain Valdres. Where we park close to a hiking trail.

We start by setting up the tent, laying out the camping table and a chair. Put a sleeping mat, sleeping bag and dog bed in the tent.

We went for a few walks back and forth on the trail, to some water and checked the area out.

Finally, I sat down on the camping chair and read the book "Lonely Planet The Digital Nomad Handbook". It is very good if you want to change your life, or go on different holidays. Mainly about how you live life on the road, that you live a lifestyle where you can work and travel at the same time.

There are a lot of flies, mosquitoes and knob where we set up the tent, so we choose to spray ourselves with mosquito spray. This is a spray for both dogs, humans and horses, so I choose to spray a little on the tent as well.

but...

What I should have checked in advance but which I didn't do was whether I wa allegic to this mosquito spray or not. So when we had to go to bed, we went to bed inside the tent. Then I felt my throat tighten, It just got tighter and tighter, until I could hardly breathe.

We simply could not sleep in the tent. As I couldn't breathe, I think it might have been a bit too much of a smell for Gizmo too. Regardless. We left the tent outside as it was, hoping the mosquito spray would wear off by itself during the night.

In the meantime, we got into the car to sleep. It was quite cold up on the mountain so I wore woolen underwear (merino wool), a blanket underneath, a sleeping bag and a woolen blanket over it. Gizmo also got blankets under and over him in the dog bed. At least now we could breathe.
