In Norway, we have a law called the Allemannsretten. Everyone has the right to be out in nature.

Briefly explained:

Imagine that you are on an epic road trip through Norway, and you decide to camp under the majestic fjords. Unlike the US, where you may have to pay for a campsite or get a permit, Norway has a wonderful rule called "allemannsretten". This means that you can pitch your tent almost anywhere in nature, as long as you stay at least 150 meters away from the nearest house or cabin. It's like having a VIP pass to nature's own campsite, completely free! But remember, you have to pack up after two days, unless you are far up in the mountains where the reindeer are your only neighbours.

Imagine you've found the perfect tent spot by a crystal clear lake. You set up your tent, light a fire and enjoy the silence. Suddenly a moose appears and seems to be as curious about you as you are about it. In Norway, it is not only allowed to camp almost anywhere, but you also get a free zoo experience! Just remember to clean up after yourself and not disturb the wildlife. Allemannsretten is about enjoying nature with respect, so the next time you see a moose, you can just smile and say "hello" - from a safe distance, of course.
